India-South Korea Naval Exercise Begins with INS Sahyadri in Busan

New Delhi, October 28: India's stealth guided missile frigate INS Sahyadri, built indigenously, has docked at the Busan naval port in South Korea. The arrival opens a bilateral naval exercise between India and South Korea.

The drill aims to build the ability of the two navies to function together at sea. Both navies will also share their operational experience during the exercise.

South Korean naval personnel gave INS Sahyadri a cordial welcome after it reached Busan. The visit is considered a key step in strengthening maritime cooperation and strategic partnership across the Indo-Pacific.

According to the Navy, the opening phase will see personnel from both countries visit each other's warships. Professional dialogue, joint training and sports activities will also be organised.

These engagements will allow sailors from both navies to exchange experiences and learn how each other operates. During the stay, INS Sahyadri's commanding officer will meet senior officers of the South Korean Navy.

After the port activities, the exercise will shift to the open sea. INS Sahyadri will be joined in the maritime phase by the South Korean warship ROKS Munmu the Great.

Coordinated maritime operations between the two ships are planned. Their goals include improving mutual coordination, enhancing the ability to conduct joint missions and strengthening professional ties between the two navies.

INS Sahyadri is a guided missile stealth warship designed and built in India. It reflects the strength of the Indian Navy's domestic shipbuilding capabilities.

The exercise will give both navies a better grasp of each other's capabilities and procedures. It is also likely to support maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and underline the shared commitment of both countries to peace, stability and security at sea.

The Indian Navy continues to work on deepening its relations with friendly navies through regular professional contact and operational cooperation.
