India’s Policy Shields Economy from Global War Shock, Shahdev Says
During a press interaction in Ranchi on July 15, BJP leader Pratul Shahdev examined the broader impact of the Iran‑Hormuz standoff on the world’s financial system. He asserted that any war, no matter how localized, generates ripples that touch every corner of the global economy, from commodity markets to shipping routes. Shahdev warned that imposing blockades or extra dues on maritime traffic would contravene international law and exacerbate supply chain disruptions. He noted that even after a temporary cease‑fire, the underlying tensions remain unresolved, and the third‑party nation tasked with mediating the dispute is already viewed with skepticism regarding its ability to enforce a durable pact. Shahdev highlighted India’s ongoing diplomatic appeals for a swift resolution, emphasizing that prolonged hostilities exact the highest toll on ordinary people and worldwide economic stability. Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long‑range economic and energy strategies, Shahdev said India has felt a relatively modest impact compared with other nations witnessing sharp fluctuations in oil and gas prices. He called on the United States, Iran and all relevant actors to act promptly to restore uninterrupted energy flows and safe passage through international sea lanes.
