India’s NIA Expands Probe, Holds Hafiz Saeed Responsible for 2025 Pahalgam Massacre

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has broadened its investigation into the April 2025 Pahalgam massacre by submitting a comprehensive supplementary charge sheet that indicts Hafiz Saeed, the founding figure of Lashkar‑e‑Taiba (LeT) and the Resistance Front (TRF). Filed on July 6 in a Jammu‑based special court, the document expands on the earlier December 2025 charge sheet and adds new allegations under the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The supplementary filing alleges that Saeed personally directed the planning, funding, and execution of the attack that targeted 25 tourists and one local citizen, motivated by religious extremism. It also details the alleged Pakistani support network that facilitated the cross‑border infiltration of militants.

Evidence presented includes forensic data, intercepted communications, and on‑site material recovered after the incident. The NIA’s expanded probe seeks to trace the logistical chain that enabled the attackers to operate from across the border and to hold all responsible parties accountable.

The agency reiterated its commitment to dismantling the terrorist infrastructure and urged cooperation from international partners to curb the menace of cross‑border terrorism.
