India‑Japan AI Joint Statement Marks Technological Partnership
During a joint press conference on July 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan’s Prime Minister Sane Takahashi announced a landmark joint statement on artificial intelligence. The declaration emphasizes the convergence of Japan’s precision technology with India’s software expertise to drive global AI advancement.
Modi highlighted the strategic importance of the Indo‑Pacific region and affirmed that both India and Japan are among the world’s largest economies, committed to a rules‑based order. He pointed to the growing economic synergy, noting that in the past year more than 120 business agreements have been signed, attracting over $10 billion of Japanese investment into India.
In addition to AI, the two leaders signed a defence co‑development pact, marking the first joint defence project between the two nations. The agreement is expected to boost indigenous capabilities in critical defence technologies while strengthening overall security cooperation.
