India’s First Private Rocket Unicorn Shares Launch Plans with PM

During an International Space Day session in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sat down with the chief executive of India’s inaugural space‑tech unicorn. The entrepreneur detailed the company’s recent achievement: a successful private rocket launch on 18 July. He described the launch as merely the beginning of an aggressive expansion strategy.

The start‑up is constructing three dedicated factories, each designed to build one launch vehicle per month. With this capacity, the firm aims to conduct a launch every month in the coming year and aspires to accelerate the cadence to weekly and eventually daily missions.

Other participants in the meeting shared complementary advances. One start‑up announced a high‑performance rocket engine currently in testing, positioning it alongside the world’s leading propulsion technologies. Another highlighted a growing influx of engineers from the United States and Europe who are eager to contribute to India’s space ambitions.

Modi emphasized the need to attract global expertise, stating that India must become a magnet for talent in the space arena. He also praised the cost‑effectiveness of Indian firms and their willingness to take on risk, calling these traits key to achieving rapid growth.

The dialogue also covered satellite engine manufacturers receiving positive international feedback and government export support, as well as a pioneering space‑pharma start‑up developing orbital factories for pharmaceutical production. The Prime Minister concluded by affirming the government’s commitment to fostering an innovative and competitive space ecosystem.
