India’s Diwali 2026 Highlights Triumph Over Maoist Insurgency, Says PM

On the evening of 8 November 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined security personnel stationed in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. During his speech, Modi labeled the troops as “the nation’s own family” and praised their unwavering commitment that has helped India win a decades‑long battle against Naxal and Maoist terrorism. He pointed out that this year’s Diwali is historic because all districts in the country have been declared free from Naxal influence, a milestone made possible by the relentless work of the armed forces. The address named a wide range of units – CRPF, COBRA, BSF, ITBP, SSB, IRB and the state police – and honoured the bravery of female commandos and specialized Bastar fighters who operate in the region’s jungles. Modi recounted that earlier, Naxal activity had disrupted daily life in over 230 districts across 20 states, preventing normal voting and civic activities, but persistent security operations have restored stability. He concluded by expressing heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the 1.4 billion Indian citizens, affirming that the nation’s safety is a shared duty of every soldier and their supporting families.
