India celebrates Diwali 2024 as leaders highlight values, prosperity and youth role

India marked Diwali 2024 with a series of official messages from the highest offices of the land. President Draupadi Murmu began her greeting by recounting the mythic origins of the festival – Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya and the illumination of the city with lamps.

She stressed that the celebration is a reminder of moral victory and a catalyst for societal well‑being. In a forward‑looking appeal, the President invited the nation’s youth to leverage Indian cultural values in contributing to a modern, developed India.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a video titled “Have a Great Diwali,” praising the nation’s dazzling lights and reaffirming the festival’s symbolism of resolve against ignorance. He too sent warm wishes, promising to celebrate the occasion alongside the nation’s defence forces. Both leaders echoed a common theme: prosperity, unity, and a shared responsibility for the environment and social harmony.
