India's Development Trajectory Threatened by Political Chaos, Says Defence Minister

New Delhi, October 16 – In a forceful statement, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh warned that attempts to create nationwide disorder are endangering India’s growth story. He claimed that certain opposition figures are drawing inspiration from Bangladesh’s past upheavals to engineer a power shift, rather than focusing on genuine electoral reforms.

Singh asserted that the country’s future depends on dialogue, not confrontation, and that constitutional institutions must remain insulated from partisan politics. He reminded listeners that the current government respects the electoral framework, whereas past administrations, including the Congress‑led one, have previously invoked emergency provisions for political ends.

The minister also referenced the 1993 controversy surrounding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner, urging the opposition to clarify its position on historical electoral matters. He praised the Modi government’s enhanced international reputation and highlighted milestones such as the expansion of digital transaction platforms, stressing that these achievements should not be hampered by political turbulence.

Singh concluded by calling for the opposition to abandon tactics that threaten democratic stability and to focus on constructive engagement for the nation’s benefit.
