Incumbents Retain Graduate Seats in Bihar Council Polls

Bihar's Legislative Council election results, announced for eight seats, show a clear split between teachers' and graduates' constituencies. While teachers' seats saw new winners across the board, voters in the graduate constituencies largely stuck with familiar representatives.

The BJP won three of the eight seats, the JDU and RJD one each, and two independents were elected. The Jan Suraaj Party also made its mark by winning the Darbhanga Teachers' Constituency, its first seat in the Council.

In the teachers' constituencies, Jan Suraaj's Suresh Prasad Rai defeated senior Congress leader Dr. Madan Mohan Jha in Darbhanga. In Patna, RJD's Dr. Sanjeev Kumar defeated BJP's Nawal Kishore Yadav, who had represented the seat five times. In Tirhut, BJP's Narendra Prasad Singh won, and in Saran, independent Rahul Raj beat JDU's Anand Pushkar.

Graduate constituencies followed a different pattern. In Patna, JDU's Neeraj Kumar won against RJD's Dilip Kumar, with Jan Suraaj's Anuj Singh coming third. In Tirhut, Banshidhar Brajwasi, an independent, secured a second consecutive win by defeating JDU's Abhishek Jha, who suffered his second straight loss.

In Darbhanga, BJP's Sarvesh Kumar won a second term. In Kosi, BJP's Dr. NK Yadav was re-elected for a third consecutive term. These results show that the graduate seats kept their established representatives in place.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary congratulated all the winning candidates. In separate messages on X, he wished them successful terms in office. He described Neeraj Kumar's victory in Patna graduate seat as a symbol of voters' faith in the NDA and public support for the alliance.

He also congratulated Dr. NK Yadav of the BJP in Kosi and Narendra Singh of the BJP in Tirhut teachers' seat. He extended good wishes to Brajwasi, Rai, Rahul Raj and Dr. Sanjeev Kumar as well, hoping that the newly elected members would protect the interests of teachers, respect their dignity and work for the advancement of education.

The outcome of the eight seats highlights the diversity in Bihar's political landscape. The BJP gained the most, Jan Suraaj secured a foothold in the Council, and independent candidates played a decisive role in several contests.
