Imported Alcohol Cache Hidden as Hydration Drink Seized

Bihar's anti‑bootlegging squad in Purnia uncovered a massive cache of foreign alcohol on September 14 after a tip suggested a truck was masking its true cargo. The vehicle, bound for Samastipur, claimed to carry apple ORS for commercial distribution.

A thorough search revealed 110 parcels of imported liquor, adding up to 1,074.6 litres, concealed among 1,100 parcels of the hydration beverage – a total of approximately 17,820 litres of ORS. The three occupants of the truck were detained immediately.

The arrested individuals – identified as Bhushan Rai, Pramod Rai and Nilesh Kumar of Chakjalal village, Halai police circle – maintained that the liquor shipment was intended for a local dealer associated with a political figure in Samastipur. Authorities are now pursuing leads to expose the full extent of the smuggling network, from the point of procurement in Assam to the final handover.

This interception demonstrates the evolving tactics of liquor traffickers who exploit everyday commodities like ORS to evade detection, even under Bihar's strict prohibition regime.
