IMD Forecast: Light to Moderate Rain Across All Gujarat Districts Until Aug 29

The India Meteorological Department has released its latest monsoon update stating that Gujarat will be under a spell of light to moderate rain for the coming seven days, ending on August 29. Every district, from the desert fringe of Kutch to the urban expanse of Ahmedabad, is slated to receive scattered showers that will stay within the light‑to‑moderate range.

Senior IMD officer Ramashray Yadav emphasized that the state is not under the influence of any strong, rain‑bearing system at present. A low‑pressure area lingering over north‑east Madhya Pradesh, coupled with an active monsoon trough tracking from Amritsar toward that low, is generating enough atmospheric lift to sustain gentle precipitation.

During this period, the prevailing wind direction over Gujarat’s interior will be from the south‑west to the west, helping to moderate the moisture influx. The cumulative rainfall recorded from June 1 to August 22 stands at 511.8 mm, about 4 percent below the normal 534.4 mm. While the central Gujarat region has experienced a surplus of 13 percent (789.5 mm versus the normal 699.9 mm), the coastal Saurashtra and Kutch zones are still facing a deficit of 28 percent.

The IMD advises residents, especially in the drier zones, to monitor local bulletins and prepare for occasional light downpours, but warns that no major flooding or heavy rain events are anticipated in the short term.
