New IIM Bengaluru Campus in Indonesia Marks Milestone for National Education Policy
New Delhi, July 7 – Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan briefed reporters on the launch of IIM Bengaluru’s campus in Indonesia, calling it a "golden chapter" for Indian education. The initiative fulfills a core objective of the National Education Policy 2020: the internationalisation of India’s academic framework.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his bilateral tour of Indonesia, gave the green light for the campus and announced the decision alongside senior Indonesian officials. The institute, currently ranked 29th globally, will join a select group of Indian campuses that have ventured abroad, including IIM Dubai, IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi centre and IIT Madras’s Zanzibar campus.
The development reflects a broader trend where more than 20 foreign universities now operate in Indian states, indicating strong global confidence in India’s education model. The Indonesian campus will provide local and overseas students with exposure to the Indian management ecosystem, research facilities, and industry connections.
In recognition of the deepening ties, Prime Minister Modi was honoured with Indonesia’s highest civilian accolade, the Bintang Adipurna. Minister Pradhan thanked the Indonesian people for their warm reception and reiterated the importance of education as a bridge between the two nations. Academic sessions are expected to commence shortly, marking a new era of cross‑border learning.
