IAF Air Show at Namo Ghat: 11,900 Police Deployed
A major air show organised by the Indian Air Force is underway at Namo Ghat in Varanasi, with the 'Wings Over Ganga' event continuing until October 25. The show began on Saturday with a series of aerial displays showcasing the force's capabilities.
Squadron Leader Gautam Tyagi, a member of the Sarang team, said the team was proud to celebrate the 94th Air Force Day over Kashi. He appealed to the public to attend the show in large numbers and be inspired by the efforts of the pilots. According to him, the hard work behind the performances can encourage people to pursue ambitious goals.
He noted that Saturday was the second day of the programme and that Sunday would mark the last day. The performances, he said, have remained consistent with the earlier shows.
Squadron Leader Ankita Singh spoke about the strengths of the Sarang team, Asia's only five-helicopter display unit. She said the team flies the Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv, manufactured by HAL, and that the display demonstrates the Air Force's professional skills, teamwork and the success of an indigenous aircraft platform. She also said the team's work has earned appreciation across the country and that she hopes it will motivate young people to join the IAF.
The air show marks the 94th anniversary of the Air Force and presents its operational abilities, technical power and flying expertise. Synchronised aerial stunts and high-speed tactical manoeuvres are among the main attractions.
Varanasi Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal stated that about 11,900 policemen have been posted for the event. The security framework also includes personnel from the PAC, NDRF, SDRF, bomb disposal squads and the Anti-Terrorist Squad.
Earlier, on October 14, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath toured Namo Ghat to review the preparations for the air show and the Prime Minister's proposed visit. Officials briefed him about the arrangements using a project map.
