Hydrogen Train Debut Marks Milestone for Green Transport in India
The debut of India’s first hydrogen‑powered train from Jind to Sonipat was celebrated with a traditional flag‑hoisting by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event signified a pivotal step toward greener rail networks, positioning India alongside nations experimenting with alternative fuel locomotives.
Attended by Haryana Chief Minister Nayeem Singh Saini and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, the launch drew a sizable crowd, particularly school students who cheered while holding the national flag. Their enthusiasm highlighted the public’s readiness for eco‑friendly travel solutions.
Concurrently, the prime minister laid foundations for a suite of development schemes valued at roughly ₹14,700 crore. Notable among these is the 157.92‑kilometre, four‑lane Delhi‑Amritsar‑Katra Expressway, which promises to cut travel times substantially. Other inaugurated projects include a four‑lane Ambala‑Kala‑Amb stretch and the greenfield Jind‑Gohana highway along NH‑352A.
