Hundreds of Attorneys Submit Memorandum to Delhi Police Commissioner
A sizable contingent of lawyers representing multiple bar associations has forwarded an official memorandum to the Commissioner of Delhi Police, demanding an immediate halt to any march directed at the Prime Minister’s official domicile.
The memorandum, prepared by Advocate Sanket Gupta, outlines the strategic importance of the PM House, describing it as one of the most sensitive and heavily fortified premises in the country. According to the petition, allowing political rallies within such a zone is inadmissible and could lead to security breaches.
The legal fraternity points to a recent instance on July 20 when a political leader called for an unsanctioned sit‑in near the residence, describing it as a precedent that must not be repeated. They argue that future attempts by political parties or organisations to congregate in high‑security zones would place undue pressure on law‑enforcement agencies.
Invoking provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the S.P.G. Act, the lawyers request that the police enforce a uniform SOP for all high‑security complexes, ensuring that any future public call for a march is met with clear, pre‑established restrictions. They stress that swift preventive action is essential to safeguard national security.
