Human rights concerns raised over illegal search of P. Dauminalal’s home
Human‑rights advocates have voiced serious concerns after the CRPF’s special Cobra team entered the house of Pu Dauminalal Haokip, joint secretary of the Kuki‑Jo Council, without displaying a warrant. The incident took place in the early hours of July 13, while the family was sleeping.
The intruders reportedly rummaged through personal belongings, causing distress among women and children. Observers argue that the absence of a judicial order violates constitutional safeguards and erodes public trust in security agencies.
The KJC stressed that Pu Haokip is a distinguished leader of a recognised civil‑society organization. Therefore, any investigative measure must be grounded in established legal protocols and should respect the dignity of the individual involved.
The council has called for an urgent, unbiased inquiry into the conduct of the officers and for a clear articulation of the statutory basis for the operation. It also reaffirmed its support for Pu Haokip and appealed to the police to adopt a professional, rights‑respecting approach in all forthcoming actions.
