How PM Housing Scheme Ended Saharanpur’s Tin-Roof Woes

For years, residents of Saharanpur lived under constant worry each monsoon season as rainwater seeped through makeshift tin roofs. Today, thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, many of those same families sleep soundly beneath concrete ceilings. Kusum Gupta described moving from a rented property—where the landlord could evict them at any moment—to a home built with government assistance of roughly ₹2.5 lakh. The money arrived straight into her account, she emphasized, underscoring the scheme’s corruption-free delivery mechanism. Manjula, another recipient, said her old house shook dangerously in high winds. After building a new residence, she feels her children now have a stable environment that supports their education and growth. She praised the twelve years of governance that have expanded roads, water supply, and housing for the poor. Satish Raj highlighted how the direct-benefit transfer model removed intermediaries who once demanded cuts. The beneficiaries collectively credit the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing shelter as a fundamental right. With their own roofs secured, families in Saharanpur say they can finally plan for long-term goals instead of worrying about where they will live next.
