The Yogi Adityanath government is turning Anganwadi centres into vibrant early-learning hubs by supplying specially designed kits to every co-located Balvatika across Uttar Pradesh. Instead of limiting these centres to midday meals and health check-ups, the state is now equipping them with activity kits that include Chahak booklets for language development, Kadam and Kalankur modules for cognitive growth, twelve varieties of Big Books, and holistic report cards that track each child’s progress. The initiative directly supports the National Education Policy’s vision of Early Childhood Care and Education as the cornerstone of lifelong learning. Teachers and Anganwadi workers are being trained through accompanying handbooks and digital guides, while a new mobile application records every delivery in real time, bringing accountability to the supply chain. Because the most rapid brain development occurs between ages three and six, officials argue that investing in play-based, child-centric pedagogy at this stage will yield higher learning outcomes in later grades. The programme also targets the most vulnerable populations, ensuring that children from low-income families receive the same quality of early stimulation once reserved for private preschools. With basic education already undergoing smart-school upgrades and the Nipun Bharat mission, this pre-primary push completes a comprehensive reform package aimed at making Uttar Pradesh a model for foundational literacy and numeracy.
