House Arrest of PDP Leaders Sparks Bigger Calls for Transparent Recruitment
Baramulla – After a peaceful rally on June 30, senior PDP officials were placed under house arrest, prompting the party’s youth wing to amplify its demands for an open hiring process. The protest centered on the claim that the National Conference government outsourced about 25,000 posts and filled them through secret appointments.
Yasir Naik, who coordinated the district‑wide demonstrations, said the arrests were an attempt to stifle a legitimate democratic expression. He reiterated that the JKPSC should be the sole gateway for all government positions, not private agencies paid large sums to select candidates in closed meetings.
Party chief Mahbuba Mufti posted a message of gratitude to the activists, underscoring that truth‑telling in front of power is never easy. She argued that the government’s heavy‑handed tactics only prove its own wrongdoings, while the PDP remains committed to fighting for fair employment opportunities.
The incident has drawn wider attention from civil‑society groups, who are now calling for an independent audit of the recent recruitment drive. The PDP has vowed to continue peaceful protests until the alleged irregularities are addressed.
