The installation of Tipu Sultan’s image in Malegaon Deputy Mayor’s office has ignited a fierce political debate across Maharashtra. BJP leader RP Singh has condemned the act, labeling the respect given to invaders like Tipu and Aurangzeb as condemnable and a cause for national worry.
Speaking candidly, Singh highlighted how certain sections continue to idolize these historical figures despite their legacy of aggression. ‘Public offices should reflect constitutional values, not provoke societal rifts through such displays,’ he asserted.
He pointed out that elected representatives bear the responsibility of upholding India’s pluralistic fabric. Incidents like this, he argued, only fuel unnecessary controversies and undermine harmony.
In a positive note, Singh lauded the shift of key government functions to ‘Seva Tirth’ and ‘Kartavya Bhavan’, moving away from British-built North and South Blocks. ‘These new centers symbolize service to 140 crore people, equipped with modern tech for seamless governance. It’s a historic break from colonial past,’ he remarked.
Following the Cabinet’s last session at South Block on February 13, this transition promises enhanced digital facilities and policy innovation. Singh described it as a ‘long-overdue but perfect move’, reinforcing modern India’s self-reliant administrative vision.
As debates rage over historical figures, such reforms highlight proactive steps towards a future-focused nation, prioritizing development over divisive legacies.
