Holiday Season Transport Boost: 1,600 New Buses to Ease Festive Journeys
Gujarat is set to launch a major upgrade to its public‑transport network as the state prepares for the upcoming Diwali and Navratri celebrations. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi announced that more than 1,600 additional buses will be deployed across the state, enhancing connectivity for commuters during the high‑traffic holiday window.
The initiative follows a review of last year’s deployment, which saw over 1,200 supplemental buses. This year’s planned increase aims to reduce overcrowding, lower ticket costs, and provide flexible scheduling for late‑night market shoppers.
Authorities have introduced an advanced booking platform that allows passengers to secure seats ahead of time. Should demand surge beyond initial estimates, the government is prepared to mobilize up to 2,500 buses, ensuring that no traveler is left without a seat.
Safety protocols for large‑scale Garba gatherings have also been tightened, with fire safety teams mandated to inspect venues and police directed to monitor crowd control. By extending transport services and reinforcing event security, Gujarat hopes to deliver a seamless and joyous festive experience for all residents.
