Hockey India Defends New Saffron Kit as Symbol of Courage

Hockey India defended its choice of saffron for the new kit, describing the hue as a representation of courage, sacrifice and victory. The design draws inspiration from the national flag and the rising sun, featuring a mandala‑style pattern, a deep navy element inspired by the Ashoka Chakra, and a modernised version of the Sudarshan Chakra on the chest to signify strength, unity and momentum. Additional details such as tricolour piping on the shoulders, the word “India” in stylish Devanagari script, and nods to Odisha’s historic support for Indian hockey are also highlighted.
