HNC Committee Calls FIR Against State Coordinator an Attack on Democracy

The Hindu Nation Coordination (HNC) Committee has labeled the FIR filed against its state coordinator Mohan Gauda as a direct assault on India's democratic framework. Filed at Whitefield police station on 1 August 2026, the FIR alleges that Gauda's social media post spread false information about a comedy show involving Kunal Kamra and the subsequent relocation of the event.

In a statement, HNC emphasized that filing a peaceful objection to a program that they consider disrespectful to Hindu deities and traditions is a constitutional right. The committee warned that treating such lawful dissent as a criminal matter could set a dangerous precedent for free speech.

According to police records, Sub‑Inspector Shri Dhur Relekar filed the FIR after monitoring Gauda's post on X, which the authorities say could mislead the public and harm another individual's reputation. The police have described the content as "misinformation" and have cited sections of the law that penalize the spread of false or harmful information.

HNC has demanded an immediate withdrawal of the FIR, urging the Karnataka government and law enforcement to refrain from misusing legal provisions. The committee pledged to pursue a judicial remedy, expressing confidence that the courts will uphold the right to peaceful expression and prevent any further intimidation of citizens exercising their democratic rights.
