Historical Baghnath Temple Linked to Shiva’s ‘Vyaghreshwar’ Legend Celebrates Sawan

According to local lore, Lord Shiva once assumed the form of a tiger, known as Vyaghreshwar, to fulfill the prayers of sage Vishishtha at this very spot. The episode gave the temple its name, Baghnath – the "Lord of the Tiger." The shrine, originally commissioned by King Lakshmi Chand of the Kumaon dynasty around 1450 CE, houses rare stone sculptures and Sanskrit inscriptions dating from the 8th to 10th centuries, underscoring its archaeological significance.
