Historic Flag Raising Signals Peace in Former Naxal‑Hit Areas

A sea of saffron, white and green unfurled over nine villages in Abujmard on India’s 75th Independence Day, symbolising the arrival of peace after decades of armed conflict. The villages—Korskodo through Rasmeta—had long been isolated due to the presence of Naxal command posts.

The official declaration of Naxal‑free status on March 31, 2026, enabled a safe environment for the flag ceremony. Residents described the moment as a collective sigh of relief, noting how the sight of the tricolor rekindled a sense of belonging to the nation.

The event also served as a platform for local leaders to call for accelerated development projects, ranging from road construction to school rebuilding. The gathering demonstrated a clear transition from a climate of terror to one of hope and civic engagement.
