Himanta Biswa Sarma Boosts Assam Development Pace in Key Review

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a comprehensive review of flagship development projects on Thursday, underscoring a shift towards rapid execution. From power infrastructure to heritage corridors and massive investments, Sarma voiced optimism while issuing firm directives for heightened speed. Sharing updates via X, he detailed power sector readiness amid rising summer demands. Peak consumption hit 2,950 MW last year and is projected at 3,100 MW this season. The state is primed with orders to distribution firms for seamless supply, alongside monitoring of thermal, solar, and hydro-storage initiatives to achieve surplus status. The spotlight fell on the transformative Kamakhya Access Corridor at Maa Kamakhya Temple. Legal clearances nearly complete, the project promises world-class amenities, easing access for millions of pilgrims and elevating the spiritual site's infrastructure. Delving into 'Advantage Assam 2.0', Sarma reviewed Rs 5 lakh crore-plus proposals from the February 2025 summit. 'More than 60% are advancing swiftly, some already live,' he noted proudly. Acceleration orders were given, with plans for direct outreach to corporate giants. These investments herald a game-changing phase for employment and industry in Assam. 'Our past tenure's strides fill me with satisfaction,' Sarma affirmed. 'Now, with fresh momentum, we'll surge ahead in state-building.' This strategic huddle reinforces Assam's vision of sustainable, inclusive progress.
