In a bombshell accusation, Himachal Pradesh BJP President Rajiv Bindal charged the Sukhu government with plotting to derail local body elections through blatant interference. Speaking in Shimla on Thursday, Bindal painted a picture of a desperate regime bending rules to cling to power.

He recounted the Congress’s failed bid to delay panchayat and municipal polls by two years, thwarted only by Supreme Court intervention. Undeterred, the government has now resorted to tampering with reservation lists in a manner unseen in state history, Bindal claimed.

‘This is no electoral process—it’s a rigged setup where rosters serve Congress’s electoral math, not constitutional mandates,’ Bindal asserted. He invoked Article 243D, arguing that repeated changes undermine the transparency enshrined in law.

Pressure on bureaucrats is rampant, leading to unrest in rural areas, according to Bindal. ‘This is thuggery disguised as governance, ignoring rules to save their seats.’

The fallout? Lakhs of motivated candidates from various sections feel betrayed. Bindal asserted that public sentiment is firmly against Congress, prompting this ‘hijack’ attempt.

The BJP has drawn a red line, committing to relentless agitation and legal battles. With deadlines looming, this controversy could redefine Himachal’s grassroots democracy, spotlighting the high stakes of local power plays.
