State Announces 60‑Paise Per Litre Diesel and Petrol Surcharge

Effective August 12, Himachal Pradesh announced a state‑wide increase of 60 paise per litre on both petrol and diesel. The decision, announced by the state cabinet, is not linked to global crude price fluctuations or general inflation. Instead, the additional charge, termed the "Widow and Orphan Surcharge," is intended to generate a dedicated fund for vulnerable sections of society, including orphans and widows. The minister reiterated that the surcharge is a targeted welfare measure and called for public understanding of its purpose.
