Calls for High-Level Investigation into Alleged Waqf Board Scandals Grow

Ayodhya’s spiritual leaders have rallied behind Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi’s plea for an independent investigation into the Waqf Board’s operations in Uttar Pradesh. The maulana, head of the All India Muslim Jamat, alleged that both Sunni and Shia boards are involved in large‑scale financial misdeeds and called on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to order a forensic audit.

Vishnu Das Maharaj, a respected ascetic, announced his support for the letter, insisting that any allegations of corruption must be examined without prejudice. He reminded followers that the sanctity of Waqf properties – from mosques to dargahs – depends on transparent stewardship.

He also commented on the political dimension of religious disputes, referencing the Ram Temple controversy as a case where selective questioning is common. The saint urged that every claim, irrespective of the community involved, receive equal investigative rigor.

Similarly, Sitaram Das Maharaj demanded a “high‑level” probe, warning that officials who have misused Waqf lands or diverted funds should face the full force of the law. He praised Maulana Shahabuddin for his courage in bringing community concerns to the public arena.

In addition to the Waqf issue, Sitaram Das welcomed Uttarakhand’s recent ban on state funding for madrasas, calling for stricter oversight of educational grants. He stressed that public resources must be allocated transparently, ensuring that only institutions meeting rigorous standards receive support.
