High Court Verdict on OBC Reservation Sparks Political Tension in MP

The recent judgment of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which annulled the 2019 order expanding OBC reservation to 27 percent, has ignited a fierce political debate across the state. The court’s decision overturns an earlier decree issued by the Congress‑led administration that raised the quota from 14 percent.

The ruling has been welcomed by the ruling party, which accuses the previous government of passing a "weak" amendment. In contrast, opposition leaders argue that the current government has betrayed the backward classes by challenging a policy meant to uplift them.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, speaking at Samatva Bhawan, stressed that the government’s policy on OBC reservation is transparent and rooted in the aim of social justice. He reiterated that the administration will continue to pursue a legal pathway to restore the reservation.

Political analysts suggest that the issue could become a pivotal factor in upcoming elections, with both parties leveraging the dispute to galvanize their respective voter bases.
