The Food Safety Department of the FDA has directed the closure of the cooperative canteen serving Bombay High Court personnel, citing the absence of an FSSAI registration. The inspection carried out on July 30 revealed that meals were being prepared and distributed without any legal authorisation. Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, a licence or registration is mandatory for any food business. The FDA’s written order requires the canteen to cease all operations until it complies with licensing requirements. If the canteen disregards the order, the FDA will pursue further action, which may include imposing fines and sealing the premises.
