High Court Keeps Bail Plea Order Reserved in Twisha Sharma Death Probe

In a closely watched hearing, the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday concluded arguments and reserved its order on whether to cancel the bail of Giribala Singh in the sensational Twisha Sharma death case. The bench heard detailed submissions from state prosecutors, CBI lawyers and the defence. State counsel highlighted post-mortem evidence showing ante-mortem injuries on the victim’s elbow and fingers, stressing that these wounds point to violence prior to death. They questioned how the trial court could have granted bail when such incriminating material was already on record and called for a fair and impartial probe. CBI representatives told the court that Giribala Singh must remain in judicial custody because investigators suspect an attempt to influence the post-mortem examination. They noted that her sister was present during the autopsy and emphasised the need to verify whether the process was compromised. Defence counsel contended that the High Court should not entertain the bail cancellation plea directly. He argued that any alleged breach of bail conditions should first be brought before the trial court, preserving the right of appeal. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, however, criticised the lower court for granting bail even before the FIR was properly examined and accused the accused of using her knowledge of law to avoid evening interrogation by sending messages to the police. With all sides having presented their positions, the High Court will now decide the fate of the bail order in the coming days.
