In a bid to ease bureaucratic hurdles for people living in Uttarakhand’s hilly terrain, Pithoragarh launched the Hello Helpline last week. Instead of spending hours and precious fuel on trips to the district office, villagers can now dial a dedicated number to lodge complaints ranging from drinking water issues to road repairs. Data released by the administration shows 143 calls logged in seven days, with over 100 already resolved. The remaining cases are under active departmental review, and the District Magistrate is personally reviewing progress daily. The initiative is designed to maintain transparency and reduce the scope for middlemen. Local residents say the helpline has restored their faith in governance. By eliminating physical visits for minor grievances, the system is proving especially helpful for daily-wage earners who cannot afford repeated journeys to the collectorate.
