Heavy Security at Pahadiya Mandi as Varanasi MLC Counting Starts

Vote counting for the MLC elections for graduate and teacher constituencies has begun in Varanasi at Pahadiya Mandi. Security has been tightened at the venue as officials work to ensure a fair, transparent and peaceful counting process.

A heavy police force has been deployed at the counting site. Surveillance is being carried out through CCTV cameras and drones, providing round-the-clock visibility of the area.

The administration has put separate arrangements in place for the two constituencies. Roughly 15 tables have been set up for each election. To handle the work smoothly, 224 personnel have been assigned duties. The counting involves close to 1.20 lakh votes.

Varanasi DIG Shivhari Meena said the police and administration have prepared a three-tier security plan for the MLC counting. The plan includes outer, inner and isolation rings of security. He noted that safety arrangements are being reviewed and reinforced continuously to ensure an orderly process.

The DIG said that social media is under observation as well, so that any false information or rumour can be addressed without delay. Drones and CCTV cameras are also keeping a watch on the counting premises.

The police commissioner has issued instructions to the relevant officials to ensure that the counting takes place peacefully. The administration's priority is to uphold law and order and prevent any form of disruption.

Under the three-tier arrangement, security staff have been posted at every ring to stop unauthorised individuals from entering the counting area.

Only individuals holding authorised passes can enter the counting centre. Passes are checked at the entrance, and access is granted only after verification. Police personnel have been told to remain watchful to keep security firm.
