Heavy Rain Expected in Tamil Nadu as Low Pressure System Intensifies
A low pressure system developing over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands region is raising the possibility of a cyclonic storm, and Tamil Nadu is set to feel its effects. The weather department has stated that the system could transform into a cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours. Rainfall is forecast across many parts of the state for the next three days.
On Sunday, the weather office expects moderate rain in the northern coastal districts, the Western Ghats region and several inland districts of Tamil Nadu, reported from Chennai on November 1.
In the next two days, heavy rain may lash parts of the Nilgiris, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore and Villupuram. Light rain is likely in the remaining parts of the state. Sunday's moderate rain is also expected in the northern coastal districts and along the Western Ghats.
Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal, Salem, Erode and Karur are likely to see similar conditions. Elsewhere, light showers may occur at one or two places.
For November 2, the department has projected heavy rain in the Nilgiris and Tiruvallur districts. In other parts of Tamil Nadu, light to moderate rain may fall during the day.
Cuddalore and Villupuram are under the threat of heavy rain on both Monday and Tuesday, November 2 and 3. These two districts have been placed under consecutive heavy rain forecasts as the weather system over the Bay of Bengal continues to strengthen.
Moderate rain may occur at one or two locations in the Western Ghats districts and northern Tamil Nadu. Light to moderate rain is forecast for the rest of the state.
In Chennai, partly cloudy skies are expected on Sunday. Light to moderate rain, along with thunder and lightning, may hit some parts of the city. The rainfall is expected to be localized and will not cover the entire city.
