Heatwave Alert: Soren Pushes for Public Drinking Water

With mercury levels soaring, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has stepped up efforts to protect citizens from dehydration. In a social-media post, he instructed every deputy commissioner, police superintendent and block development officer to ensure water is freely available outside all government buildings and crowded public areas. The order also requires officials to announce the locations clearly so that travellers and daily commuters can find relief quickly. In places facing acute shortages, water tankers will be pressed into service immediately. Hand-pump repairs and alternative arrangements will be fast-tracked. Soren reminded local representatives that preventing distress caused by water scarcity is a shared responsibility. The initiative aims to shield the most vulnerable sections, including construction workers, street vendors and the elderly, from heat-related illnesses during the ongoing hot spell.
