Heat and humidity rise in Chennai as rain holds back in most of Tamil Nadu
The latest bulletin from the regional weather centre shows that Chennai will experience a hot and humid day on Sunday, with partly cloudy skies but no significant rainfall. Temperatures are likely to peak at about 38 °C, a few degrees above normal.
While the Western Ghats continue to receive moderate showers until mid‑July, the rest of Tamil Nadu is expected to stay dry. The rain‑free condition will persist across central and southern districts, with only sporadic light rain possible in isolated spots.
The heat index is projected to climb, making conditions feel more oppressive, especially in urban areas. Health officials advise residents to stay well‑hydrated, wear breathable fabrics, and avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak hours.
A maritime alert highlights strong gusts, potentially reaching 55 km/h, forecasted for the central‑eastern Arabian Sea by Wednesday, prompting fishermen to take extra precautions.
