Guwahati University Announces Luxury Guest House Amid Financial Strain

The administration of Guwahati University has moved forward with a plan to construct a luxury guest house, a VIP dining hall and associated staff facilities, costing about ₹2.08 crore. AASU has condemned the move, stating that the institution is facing a financial crunch that threatens essential academic functions. Utpal Sharma emphasized that the union would back larger capital projects only if they do not diminish funding for teaching, research and student support services. He appealed to the Assam Education Department to scrutinise the justification behind the expenditure and ensure that public funds are used responsibly.
