Guwahati University event sees VP highlight language, culture, and development
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam extended his thanks to Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan for the latter’s first official tour of the state, held on September 7 in Guwahati.
Through multiple social‑media posts, Sarma noted that the Vice President’s itinerary showcased several landmark moments for Assam’s education landscape. He expressed the gratitude of Assam’s citizens as the Vice President moved on to the next destination.
“The insights and guidance shared by the Vice President are set to inspire everyone, especially our students,” Sarma wrote, adding that the emphasis on bolstering cultural and academic ties with Tamil Nadu was welcomed as a bridge to fresh opportunities.
During a ceremony at Gauhati University, the Vice President stressed the pivotal role of language in preserving a civilization’s memories, knowledge, and identity. He praised recent translation projects that rendered Assamese literature into Tamil and Tamil works into Assamese, urging deeper scholarly interaction between the two states.
Radhakrishnan officially released two updated publications – the fifth edition of "Bhupen Hazarika: Hundred Years of a Wandering Songs" and the expanded fifth edition of the "Chandrakanta Dictionary" – both edited by Ankuran Dutta and Nani Gopal Mahanta.
He also applauded the university’s research across a spectrum of areas: endangered languages, multilingualism, the Brahmaputra basin, environmental sustainability, and Indian knowledge systems. He appealed to students to pursue research and innovation that tackles societal challenges and contributes to the "Developed India 2047" vision.
The Vice President commended the progress made in Assam under Chief Minister Sarma’s stewardship, citing advances in education, infrastructure, connectivity, investment, and employment. He highlighted that more than 1.64 lakh merit‑based government appointments have been made since 2021 and mentioned the inauguration of the first MBA batch at IIM Guwahati.
Sarma concluded that the Vice President’s message will continue to motivate Assam’s youth and strengthen the state’s educational and cultural links nationwide.
