Gunfire Rocks Guwahati's GS Road: Six Deaths Feared, Many Hurt

Panic gripped a busy locality in Guwahati after unidentified gunmen opened fire at a hotel on GS Road, near Bora Service. Six deaths are feared in the attack, and a number of people have sustained serious gunshot injuries.

The police said the attackers arrived at the hotel on Monday evening and began shooting at people present on the premises. The firing spread confusion across the area, and locals quickly contacted the police to report the incident.

Early accounts suggest that several people were killed instantly by gunfire. The injured were transported to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, known as GMCH. Police sources have reported that six people died, but no official confirmation has been issued yet.

Senior officers rushed to the location after learning about the incident and took control of the area. A forensic team has also been deployed. Police are now examining CCTV footage in an effort to identify the assailants.

After carrying out the attack, the gunmen fled the scene. The police have imposed a city-wide blockade and are conducting checks on vehicles.

The locality is one of the most heavily trafficked areas of Guwahati, with large crowds usually present during evening hours. Shops shut down after the shooting, and people in the surrounding area are living in fear.

The injured are currently undergoing treatment at GMCH, and some are reported to be in a grave condition. Authorities say the investigation into the case is continuing.
