Gunfight in Karnal Ends With Arrest, Illegal Weapon Seized

A tense encounter in Karnal ended with the arrest of a criminal who was shot in the leg during a clash with police. The incident occurred near Bhaini Khurd village in the Taraori police station area, where the CIA-2 team had set up a blockade after receiving intelligence about a planned crime.

The suspect, Anil Kumar, was riding a motorcycle when police attempted to stop him. Police said he fired at the personnel, and the team retaliated. In the course of the exchange, Anil was struck in the leg and collapsed. He has been taken to the trauma centre in Karnal, where he is receiving medical care.

Investigating officer Sanjay Kumar of CIA-2 Karnal explained that police had learned late in the evening that Anil Kumar was planning to carry out a crime and possessed an illegal weapon. Acting on this information, the team set up a blockade at the village outskirts. When Anil ignored the signal to halt, he opened fire, and police responded.

According to police, seven rounds were fired in total. The suspect discharged three rounds, while the police team fired four rounds in return. The police recovered an illegal weapon and a Pulsar motorcycle from Anil following the encounter.

Police records show that Anil already has four cases registered against him. Officials have not yet confirmed the nature of the crime he was allegedly planning to commit. Investigators are reviewing the firing, the recovered weapon, and evidence collected from the scene.

Taraori police station in-charge Jagdish Kumar said the CIA-2 team had set up a checkpoint when a suspect arrived and opened fire on seeing the police. A weapon was recovered from the suspect, who was on a bike. The team responded with four rounds.
