Zero-tolerance policy announced for counterfeit cheese, butter in Gujarat

A zero‑tolerance stance has been adopted by the Gujarat government against the sale of fake dairy items. The policy, announced after FDCA’s extensive sampling and lab testing, targets analog paneer, cheese and butter that are marketed as real dairy but are actually made from plant‑based oils and other non‑milk components.

The administration warned that any individual or business found breaching the ban will confront rigorous legal proceedings. The health minister emphasized that protecting public health and preserving consumer confidence in dairy products remain top priorities. Continuous monitoring and surprise checks will be deployed to enforce the prohibition effectively.
