Tourism Boost Expected as Madhavpur Pilgrimage Site Gets Major Upgrade

The second phase of the Shri Krishna‑Rukmini Yatra Dham redevelopment has officially begun in Madhavpur, Porbandar, under the auspices of the Gujarat government. With a financial outlay of 43.72 crore rupees, the project seeks to rejuvenate the historic Madhavarajji temple, improve pilgrim amenities, and develop a coastal tourism hub.

Managed by the Gujarat Sacred Pilgrimage Development Board, the initiative will connect all heritage sites within a one‑kilometre radius into a single heritage circuit. Phase one, executed at a cost of 47.99 crore rupees, delivered the Shri Rukmini Mataji temple, a traditional wedding pavilion called Chori Mayra, a sacred Brahmkund, and the primary entrance gate.

Phase two allocates 20.25 crore rupees for temple restoration and the creation of a 200‑metre seafront zone featuring food kiosks, a communal dining area, public toilets, and a tourism zone. An additional 5.31 crore rupees will fund an external plaza and parking facility to better manage crowds during the annual fair and religious events. Road widening to nine metres, landscape improvements, fountains, cultural statues, signboards, and selfie points are also planned, with an estimated cost of 3.45 crore rupees.
