From Gujarat to Japan: Organic Cotton Stoles Presented by PM Modi

Chaman Siju, a handloom craftsman from Gujarat, narrated how Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned a regional textile exhibition into a platform for global outreach. Modi asked Siju to craft organic cotton stoles that could be gifted to foreign dignitaries. The prime minister later carried an organic black cotton stall to Delhi and presented it to former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The gift sparked a lengthy conversation on organic textiles between the two leaders, and Abe later wore the stole during his visit to India, symbolising a blend of tradition and sustainability. Siju noted that the Prime Minister now routinely distributes such organic cotton garments during his international trips.
