Hyper‑Scale Data Centers Get Green Energy Mandate in Gujarat's Dholeka Project
A distinctive feature of the new policy is its focus on sustainability. All data‑center projects in Dholeka will be required to procure at least 51 percent of their electricity from green energy sources, ensuring a reduced carbon footprint for the massive server farms.
The state will also promote the use of desalinated seawater for cooling and other operational needs, thereby preserving freshwater resources for agriculture and other industries. Harsh Sanghvi emphasized that no freshwater will be diverted from farmers to data‑center operations.
Gujarat has a long‑standing record of supplying uninterrupted power to industrial zones, and the same reliability will now extend to the digital sector. By coupling renewable energy mandates with robust utility services, the state aims to create a resilient and environmentally responsible data‑center ecosystem.
These measures are expected to attract environmentally conscious investors, both domestic and overseas, who are looking for compliant, low‑impact data‑center locations.
