The political landscape of Gujarat mourns the loss of veteran BJP legislator Govind Parmar from Umreth, who succumbed to illness on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes, sharing his sorrow on social media.

At 82, Parmar had been battling health issues and was under care at a hospital in Anand district. Elected from Umreth in Anand, he was a familiar face in regional politics.
Hailing from a simple background in 1943, Parmar completed schooling till class seven before immersing himself in community service. His strong ties with Charotar’s village folks propelled him to prominence.
Parmar’s electoral victories included a 2017 win against Congress’s Kapilaben Chavda and a successful defense in 2022 against NCP’s Jayant Patel. These triumphs highlighted his enduring voter appeal.
Gujarat BJP chief Jagdish Vishwakarma echoed the sentiments, describing the news as devastating. ‘Umreth has lost a beloved leader in Govindbhai Parmar. May God grant peace to his soul and fortitude to his loved ones,’ he said in a statement.
Throughout his career, Parmar championed grassroots development, focusing on rural upliftment. His passing prompts reflections on the vital role of such dedicated leaders in sustaining democracy at the local level. Political peers and constituents alike honor his legacy of selfless service.
