Guardian Minister Accused of Partisan Distribution in Shivsagar and Charai Dew

Guwahati, August 7 – Akhil Gogoi, a senior figure in the Raiyotor party, lodged a formal complaint on Friday demanding that Assam’s Guardian Minister for Shivsagar, Bimal Borah, be stripped of his duties. Gogoi cited large‑scale mishandling and partisan bias in the allocation of flood‑relief items in Shivsagar and Charai Dew.

He maintained that the distribution mechanism was riddled with discrimination: many authentic flood‑affected families were excluded, while individuals with no legitimate claim were provided with relief goods.

Gogoi noted that during the early days of the disaster, BJP representatives were conspicuously missing, whereas Raiyotor volunteers were actively engaged in rescue and assistance. He accused Borah of favoring BJP workers and affiliated ward members for the disbursement of supplies, bypassing any neutral or transparent system.

A particular ward member linked to the BJP was alleged to have misused the relief material meant for beleaguered residents. Despite raising these concerns publicly, Gogoi claimed no investigative action has been taken against the accused, and instead, the person who highlighted the issue faced arrest.

The demand also underlines that political considerations appear to have shaped the beneficiary list in Shivsagar and Charai Dew, leaving many needy households without the state‑promised financial assistance of ₹15,000.

Gogoi appealed directly to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure that the list of beneficiaries is prepared by objective officials, free from party influence.
