Greater Noida Bus Tragedy Prompts National Leaders' Condolences and Compensation

On the night of September 24, a passenger bus traveling the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida caught fire, resulting in nine deaths and leaving many others wounded. The calamity drew immediate reactions from India's highest offices. President Droupadi Murmu posted on X, describing the incident as "deeply painful" and offering sincere condolences to the families of the victims while praying for the quick healing of the injured.

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan also used the platform to convey his sorrow, emphasizing the loss of valuable lives and extending his thoughts to the affected families.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation through his office, said he was "greatly shocked" by the tragedy and offered his heartfelt sympathy to those who have lost loved ones. He announced that the Prime Minister National Relief Fund would provide INR 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased passenger and INR 50,000 to each injured passenger.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had earlier announced the same compensation package for the victims. According to police, the bus was en route from Delhi's Kashmiri Gate to Mahoba when the fire erupted in the Jevar police area of Greater Noida. While thirty passengers were rescued, nine succumbed to the flames. Authorities have taken the driver and the conductor into custody as investigations proceed.
