Grant Demands for Disabled Welfare, Prohibition, Social Welfare, Agriculture on Agenda

Chennai, August 31 – The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will reconvene on Monday after its weekend recess to discuss grant demands for four vital departments. The debate is part of the 2026‑27 budget session, during which legislators have already examined funding requests for 32 different ministries.

The state introduced its main budget on August 5 and the agriculture budget on August 6. General debates involving the ruling coalition and opposition took place on August 7, 10 and 11, with the Finance Minister and the Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister responding to questions on August 12.

The upcoming session will focus on departmental grant applications, giving lawmakers the opportunity to raise constituency‑specific issues and scrutinise the cost proposals of each department. The day will open with a Question Hour, during which ministers answer questions on policies and projects tied to their constituencies.

Subsequent to the Question Hour, the assembly will consider grant requests from the Disability Welfare Department, the Prohibition and Abkari Department, the Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Department, and the Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Department. Participants from both the government and opposition will discuss funding for disability services, implementation of prohibition rules, women’s safety and social security measures, and farmer relief initiatives.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who also heads the Disability Welfare Department, will field questions on that portfolio. Ministers K. Vignesh (Prohibition), K. Jagadeeshwari (Social Welfare) and R. Vinod (Agriculture) are slated to answer queries, present new schemes, and seek approval for the proposed expenditures.
