Koyambudur’s proximity to the Kerala border makes it a strategic hub for moving sand, red soil and other minerals across state lines. The presence of 13 check posts along the border creates both an opportunity and a challenge for regulators aiming to stop unlawful cargo movement. By embedding GPS devices in trucks, the state can monitor routes in real time, verify compliance, and quickly respond to suspicious activities. The technology also aids revenue officials in ensuring that transport fees are correctly levied. As a result, Koyambudur is now outpacing other districts that collectively operate up to 12,000 mineral trucks but have fitted GPS in only about 2,000 of them.
